Aikido Glossary

AYC is a traditional Japanese dojo and we require that our students have a working knowledge and understanding of basic Aikido terms in both English and Japanese.

This, of course, is learned over time and through constant repetition during training.  Students are advised from their earliest days at AYC to learn the techniques in both languages until it becomes completely natural for them.

During testing, senior students must be prepared to perform the various techniques that are asked of them regardless of which language it is called out in.
