Jodo has deep roots in Japanese history, dating back to the late
fifteenth century. The art of “Jo-jutsu” commonly known as Jodo
today was created by Muso Gonosuke Katsuyoshi. Farmers and peasants
of old Japan typically practiced Jo-jutsu to protect themselves
against the raging Samurai swordsmen. Today, Jodo is gaining
popularity in many countries around the world especially Canada.
Chief Instructor Kimeda Sensei (4th Dan in Jodo) at Aikido Yoshinkan
Canada teaches Jodo twice a week. Here students learn the critical
elements of Jodo such as focus, timing and distance grouped together
to create proper technique.
Classes start by performing warm-up exercises which include the 12
Kihon (basic) techniques followed by practicing the 12 Seitei
(modern) Kata forms.
